how we are doing our bit for the planet…

Happy National Earth Day! For those of you who maybe don’t know what National Earth Day is, it is a day that exists once a year to raise awareness for specific causes that are affecting and damaging our planet.

In 2018, Earth Day was the start of a campaign to end plastic pollution, and this year it is all about endangered species and learning how they can be protected. We feel very passionately about our planet and its creatures here at jewellerybox, so we thought we would take this opportunity to let you know what we do to look after our planet.

100% recycled toilet roll

In the jewellerybox head office, we only buy Who Gives a Crap toilet roll, which is 100% recycled, and comes with no plastic packaging. Not to mention, the brand donate 50% of profits to help build toilets for those in need – so the more trips to the toilet we do, the more people we are helping!

minimal waste scheme

We are also recycling with First Mile, a scheme which is trying to optimise what items can be recycled. They currently recycle up to 66% of waste, whereas the average in the UK is 33%, and to make them even cooler they also pick up all waste in carbon-neutral vehicles. We like to think we are pretty good at recycling, and currently have a recycling percentage of 77%!

recyclable packaging

We hope that it is pretty clear by now that we are passionate about recycling, and hopefully this comes across to you guys, our customers, too. The packaging that we use for products is recyclable, so if you don’t fancy keeping your little brown jewellerybox box, it’s super easy to recycle.

part of reGAIN app

jewellerybox are proud to be a partner of reGAIN, an app where you can arrange to donate unwanted clothes, and turn that into a discount for an online retailer. We offer a 20% discount code to people who donate their unwanted clothes, and we hope that we can encourage our customers to think twice before throwing their clothes in the bin to go to landfill.

Cycle2work

jewellerybox are part of the government Cycle2work scheme, which allows employees to make savings on a new bike and any safety equipment that they need. This scheme is a great incentive for members of the jewellerybox team to opt to take a more “green” mode of transport to work (although the majority of us do use public transport anyway!). Not only does it mean we can be fit when running around packing all your orders, but we are also commuting in an environmentally-friendly way.

We will be the first to admit that we aren’t necessarily the most perfect environmental warriors, but we make changes wherever we can. If we can encourage you to make even one small change to your lifestyle for the better, whether this be throwing away less clothes to just changing up your toilet roll, we’ll be happy bunnies!

I am so impressed with what Jewellerybox are doing to help our planet. I wish and hope that other companies will follow by your example. We need to think of our future generations and what sort of planet we want them to grow up in. To think there are so many endangered species makes me feel very sad. Keep up the good work team!!!
